Course Offering Eligibility

In general, all academic units are eligible to offer common core courses. Non-academic units may collaborate with an academic unit to participate in course development and delivery.

While most common core courses can be hosted in any academic unit, there are specific exceptions:

Advisory Board for the Undergraduate Common Core Program (Obsolete for backup purpose)

The Advisory Board comprises a panel of external experts from the academic sector and the community to provide support and counsel to the Committee on Undergraduate Core Education (CUCE) on issues central to the Undergraduate Common Core Program, including its academic content, strategy for future development, and quality related issues.

The selection committee will look for evidence of excellence in the following areas. These are just guidelines and it is not expected the nominated course will achieve all of these.

 

Exemplar of a Good Common Core Course

Indicators of an exemplary course include, but are not limited to the following:

Designated Humanities General Education Courses (Effective in 2014-15) (Obsolete for backup purpose)

General Education (GE) courses are designated by the University every year. Only GE courses taken in the academic year in which they are so designated can be used to fulfill the GE requirements.

The following are Business and Management General Education Courses [GEE(HUMA)] designated for the 2014-15 academic year. Students should select courses from this list to satisfy the GEE (HUMA) requirement. Their status as Business and Management GE courses in previous years are indicated by a "✓".

We are pleased to announce that the Common Core Teaching Excellence Award 2022 is now open for nomination. Any instructor or team of instructors who has designed and/or taught a common core course or common core courses between 1 January and 31 December 2022 may be nominated for the Award.
