In general, all academic units are eligible to offer common core courses. Non-academic units may collaborate with an academic unit to participate in course development and delivery.

While most common core courses can be hosted in any academic unit, there are specific exceptions:

(a) Behavioral Foundations of University Education: Habits, Mindsets, and Wellness (HMW)

The designated common core course in the HMW area, HMAW 1905, is hosted by the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) and is jointly delivered by all Schools and the Dean of Students’ Office (DSTO). If you are interested in joining the teaching team for your School, please approach your School or contact us for assistance.

(b) English Communication (E-Comm)

Common core courses in the E-Comm area are provided by the Center for Language Education (CLE), leveraging their expertise in English language education to ensure alignment with the University English Language Requirements.

(c) Chinese Communication (C-Comm)

Both CLE and the School of Humanities and Social Science (SHSS) are eligible units in offering C-Comm common core courses.

(d) Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

The Research Office (RO) is the sole unit offering the Common Core UROP course, UROP 3200, due to the distinct nature and expertise required for guiding students through the research journey.
