When designing the course content and teaching and learning (T&L) activities for your common core course, integrate the following principles to ensure alignment with the Common Core goals and objectives [link to the “Goals” section of “The Program” in Section E] and the University’s guidelines:

  • Clearly articulate your course intended learning outcomes (ILOs) using the outcome-based education (OBE) approach with a criterion-referencing model
  • Align your course ILOs with the common core area ILOs [link to “Common Core Areas” for the 2026-27 cohort in Section N]
  • Create course materials and a structure that facilitate students in achieving the course ILOs, and arrange course topics in a sequence that supports their learning progression
  • Ensure that all students, including those without prior knowledge or with an academic background comparable to high school graduates, can participate in activities
  • Design activities that effectively deliver content while allowing students to practice competencies multiple times; these activities should be student-centered, fostering engagement and critical thinking
  • Adopt active learning pedagogical approaches to engage students, and create an environment conducive to effective interaction between students and you
  • Ensure compliance with the University’s GenAI policies
  • Adopt experiential learning pedagogies, with concurrence from the Center for Education Innovation (CEI), if you are developing courses in the Undergraduate experiential Opportunities Programs (UxOP) area [link to the “Experiencing Group” section of “Requirement” for the 2026-27 cohort in Section L]. Also observe the specific requirements [link to “UxOP Specific Requirements” in Section AQ] for UxOP courses.
