Course Review Panels (CRPs)
The Course Review Panel (CRP) is established by the Committee on Undergraduate Core Education (CUCE) [link to “Committee (CUCE)” in Section I] to provide insights into the delivery of common core courses and enhance their quality.
The CRP is responsible for reviewing common core courses during both regular and triggered review exercises [link to a section under “QA Handbook” in Section G (to be provided)]. During regular reviews, the Panel evaluates data related to course delivery, including the number of courses offered, enrollment figures, Student Feedback Questionnaire (SFQ) scores, and course review reports submitted by Schools. For triggered reviews, the Panel examines specific issues identified and proposed actions to address these concerns, as outlined in the course review reports from Schools. The CRP then reports its recommendations to CUCE for further discussion, aiming to provide feedback to Schools on observations and recommendations for improvement.
The CRP also serves as a consultancy during the common core course proposal vetting process, focusing on essential elements of course development such as course descriptions, intended learning outcomes (ILOs), contributions to common core areas [link to “Common Core Areas” for the 2026-27 cohort in Section N], and competencies [link to “Common Core Competencies” in Section F].
The following five CRPs are established to serve the respective common core areas:
| Course Review Panels (CRPs) | To Serve Common Core Area |
| 1 | Critical Thinking and Data Literacy (CTDL), Human-AI Co-Creation and Data Literacy (HAIC), Habits, Mindsets, and Wellness (HMW), Undergraduate experiential Opportunities Programs (UxOP) |
| 2 | Chinese Communication (C-Comm), English Communication (E-Comm) |
| 3 | Arts (A), Humanities (H) |
| 4 | Science (S), Technology (T) |
| 5 | Social Analysis (SA), Sustainability (SUS) |
Terms of Reference, Conduct of Business, and Membership
Terms of Reference
The Course Review Panel (CRP) shall decide its own meeting schedule with the aim of:
- Evaluating the effectiveness of common core course delivery in fulfilling their intended learning outcomes (ILOs) and desired competencies, as well as assessing the alignment among these course ILOs, area ILOs, and competencies during course review exercises within their respective areas;
- Reporting to the Committee on Undergraduate Core Education (CUCE) their observations and recommendations on reviewed common core courses for reference and further action; and
- Undertaking comprehensive reviews of common core proposals within their respective areas and making recommendations to CUCE for approval when requested.
Conduct of Business
The CRP is not an approval body. Its primary role is to make recommendations to CUCE regarding the effective delivery of common core courses in achieving the desired competencies and ILOs of the common core areas in concern. Recommendations are to be made through a consensus-based approach. In instances where consensus cannot be reached, the CRP will present the differing viewpoints to CUCE for consideration.
Membership
Convenor:
A CUCE member whose expertise is outside the CRP’s designated areas, to be invited by the CUCE Secretary.
Members:
Seven representatives for CRP 1 and three representatives for CRP 2 to 5, to be nominated by the Dean of their respective Schools as shown in the table below. These representatives serve as the communication channel between the CRP and their School. Those nominated by the course offering school are responsible for presenting the courses, addressing questions that arise during CRP meetings, communicating comments from the CRP, and following up on comments. Course instructors may also join the meeting to facilitate discussion, if deemed necessary.
