Course Amendment

If you are contributing a current UG course to the Common Core or adding a new common core area to your current common core course, please submit an Approval of UG Course form for approval by the Committee on Undergraduate Core Education (CUCE) [link to “The Committee (CUCE)” in Section I]. Refer to the guidelines and requirements in the New Course Development [link to “New Course Development” in Section AH] section.

If you are making changes to an existing common core course or deleting a common core course, here’s what you need to know.

Approval authorities and processes

Different approval authorities are involved, and various approval processes apply to different types of course changes:

  1. Changes to UG Course Catalog information
For changes involving information on the UG Course Catalog, e.g., course title, course description, or course intended learning outcomes (ILOs), approval from the Committee on Undergraduate Studies (CUS) is required.
  2. Changes Impacting Common Core Areas and Competencies
Revisions that do not affect the UG Course Catalog but involve common core areas and competencies may require CUCE approval, depending on the degree of changes.
  3. Removing Common Core Areas
    Please inform CUCE for:
    • Removing any common core areas of your course
    • Removing your course from the common core course list but keeping it as a UG course
  4. Minor Changes
If your proposed changes do not impact the UG Course Catalog or the common core areas and competencies, no formal approval is required. However, you are advised to inform CUCE for record-keeping.
  5. Course Deletion
For completely deleting your course from the UG Course Catalog, please inform CUS.
Forms

Depending on the types of changes you are making, you may need to submit one or two forms:

  1. UG Course Change/Deletion Form
Submit the UG Course Change/Deletion Form to CUS if you are making changes to the catalog information or if you are deleting your course from the UG Course Catalog. Obtain concurrence from CUCE before submitting your form to CUS.
  2. Common Core Course Change/Deletion Form
Submit the Common Core Course Change/Deletion Form (DOC / PDF) [link to the corresponding .doc and .pdf form: Common Core Course Change and Deletion Form_final] to CUCE for changes related to common core areas (except for adding an area) and competencies as well as for removing the common core status of your course.

A table outlining the approval authorities, processes, and forms for typical changes made to common core courses is available below. If your change falls outside these categories, please email the Common Corers for assistance.
